Hello, I have some questions:
1. How exactly the tax will be calculated? For instance, I won 100,000$ in the first tournament (and paid 30% in taxes), then I won 20,000$ more (and paid 30% in taxes again), after that I won pretty cash several times, overall, less than 5,000$ (and I wasn’t asked to pay any taxes).
How much taxes will I be able to refund, in case I will expend here 20,000$ by the end of the year, will spend 40,000 on tournament’s buy ins, and 10,000 in cash games?
2. How can I prove my results in cash games?

1. Tax is calculated on any winnings over $5,000. So the cage will withhold 30% and send it to the IRS for any amount over this threshold. It is hard to say exactly how much you will be able to get refunded. But hypothetically, if you won $120,000, that means you paid $36,000 in taxes. With $20,000 of expenses and $50,000 of gambling losses, your refund would be around $28,000
2. For cash games, keep a journal or log book that states where you played, when you played, how much you won/lost, and what type of game you played (5/10 NL for example)
